Mechanics Bank’s History
Strength of character, strong communication skills and stability are the cornerstone traits of both successful individuals and long-standing institutions. In 1892, J.V. Blackmur, the founder and first president of The Mechanics Savings Bank, instilled these principles into Mechanics’ corporate culture-and they remain today.
Mechanics began modestly with paid capital of $8,000, an authorized capitalization of $25,000 and Mr. Blackmur’s commitment to serving the local community. Today, with assets totaling over $280 million, Mechanics remains focused on honoring the local customers who have partnered in the bank’s success for more than 130 years. As the oldest home-owned bank servicing Yalobusha and Lafayette Counties, Mechanics continues to provide today’s banking consumers the exceptional service and new technology offerings they require.
It has often been said that true knowledge, and thus success, depends on a thorough understanding of the past. At Mechanics Bank, the past, present, and future have always been and will continue to be neatly intertwined, providing the integrity, people skills and financial stability Mr. Blackmur established and our customers have come to expect.
